DIY: Triangle Baby Quilt

STEP BY STEP TUTORIAL
TUTORIAL PASO A PASO

1 x 1.20 m baby quilt for the cot or play mat
4-colour triangles quilt - Plain colour back
  • The first thing you have to do is to plan the size and proportions of the quilt. In this case, I planned a 1x1.20m sized quilt, dividing it in 20x20cm squares, and then dividing each one in half to get the triangles. Then, plan the order of the colours (this is a 4-colour geometric design) making sure same-coloured triangles don't touch each other. Keep the pattern all the time handy so you don't get confused when stitching the triangles together.

1 x 1.20 m // 5 x 6 - 20 cm squares
  • You will need to buy 1 m of fabric of each colour except for the one you are going to use for the back and binding, that should be 2 m - the pink one in my case. 3 plains + 1 print works very well. Also, add a 1x1.20 m piece of quilt padding to your shopping list.

4 fabrics. 100% cotton.
  • Cut 8 22x22cm squares of each colour (1cm seam allowance added).
  • then cut them in halves on the diagonal to get the triangles done.

  • Stitch every 2 pieces of triangles together to get the squares again, following the pattern you have previously sketched.

  • Press all the seams open.
  • Plancha las costuras abiertas.
  • Stitch each row of square together following the pattern. Then press the seams open with the iron.

  • Afterwards, stitch the rows together according the design.

  • Now you have got the top layer done!
  • ¡Ya tenemos hecha la capa de arriba!

  • Cut the quilt padding and the back fabric with the same size as the top layer. Pin the 3 layers together so they don't move - Place each pin diagonally where the triangles' points match.

  • Top stitch every seam catching the 3 layers: top layer made from triangles, quilt padding and back fabric. By doing this you will get the quilted effect.

  • Once you have finished quilting, cut 8 cm wide strips of the backing fabric for the final binding. You will need a total of 1.20 + 1 + 1.20 + 1 = 4.40 m plus some extra length for the corners.

  • Join the strips together to get only one long stripe. Fold the strip 4 times and press them with the iron to get a 2 cm wide binding.

  • Add the binding all around the perimeter of the quilt making sure once again you are catching all the layers.

DONE!
¡TERMINADA!
