DIY: Detachable Leather Collar

Today I´ll show you how to make your own Detachable Leather Collar. 

It´s very simple but you need the right materials!

Hoy os voy a enseñar cómo haceros vuestro propio Cuello de Piel Desmontable. 

Es muy fácil pero necesitáis los materiales adecuados!

Materials we need

Materials we need / Materiales que necesitamos:

- Piece of leather (I used lamb leather) / Pieza de Piel (yo he utilizado piel de cordero)

- Piece of fuse / interfacing / entretela

- Tailor Scissors / Tijeras de sastre (o tijeras buenas...)

- Pencil or marker / lápiz o rotulador

- Leather needles for the sewing machine / agujas de máquina de coser para piel

- Leather thread / hilo para coser piel

- Teflon foot / Patilla de teflon 

- Hook and Eye / corchete

- and the Pattern! / y el Patrón!

1. Print out the pattern on A4 sheet

Imprime el patrón en un folio A4

trace on the leather around the paper pattern 

2. You can´t pin leather, so carefully trace the patter all around on the piece of leather (wrong side). 2 ON THE  PATTERN RIGHT SIDE AND 2 ON THE WRONG SIDE. We´ll need 4 pieces: top and bottom, left and right.

Como no se pueden poner alfileres en la piel, traza el patrón con el lápiz o rotulador en la piel (por el revés) por todo alrededor cuidadosamente. 2 POR EL DERECHO DEL PATRÓN Y DOS POR EL REVÉS. Necesitamos 4 piezas: arriba y abajo, izquierda y derecha. 

Cut 4 pieces of leather

3. Cut out the 4 pieces.
Recorta las 4 piezas. 

Cut 1 piece of Fuse

4. Cut 2 pieces of interfacing on the fold. (so you´ll get 1 right and 1 wrong). 

Recorta 2 piezas de entretela con ésta doblada. (así obtendrás una del derecho y una del revés). 

Iron the fuse to the bottom collar pieces

5. Press at medium heat (and no steam) the interfacing on the 2 bottom pieces of the collar to stick it. 

Planchar a temperatura media (y sin vapor) la entretela a las dos piezas de abajo del cuello para pegarlas. 

Leather needles, teflon foot, leather thread

Stitch both pieces together, wrong sides out. 

6. Put 2 pieces together: top and bottom and stitch them 1 cm from the edge. Leave a 4 or 5 cm opening (on the curved edge) to turn the collar inside out. For this step you should have set on your sewing machine the teflon foot, leather needle and leather thread (thicker). 

Pon las piezas juntas de dos en dos: superior e inferior, y cóselas por el revés a 1cm desde el borde, dejando una apertura de unos 4 o 5 cm para poder darle la vuelta, en la parte interior. Para este pasó tendrás que haber instalado en tu máquina de coser la patilla de teflón, la aguja y el hilo para piel (más gruesos). 

Stitch all around the collar and leave a gap in the middle to turn it inside out. 

7. Cut all the piece around at 0,5 cm from the edge, and cut the corners, to help you turning the piece inside out, through the opening you left. 

Recorta toda la pieza a 0,5 cm desde el borde, y haz un corte en las esquinas, para facilitar el paso de darle la vuelta a través de la apertura que hemos dejado. 

Iron without steam and with a cloth in between the iron and the leather piece

8. Press the pieces at medium heat, without steam and with a cloth in between the iron and the leather pieces. 

Plancha las piezas a temperatura media, sin vapor y con un trapo entre la plancha y las piezas de piel. 

Hand sew the opening closed

 9. Hand sew the opening closed. 

Cierra las aperturas cosiéndolas a mano. 

Sew on a Hook and Eye closure on the inside

 10. Lastly, sew on a Hook and Eye closure on the inside (back) and hand sew the 2 pieces together on the front. Et voilá! your finished detachable collar!

Por último, cósele un corchete detrás por la parte de abajo, y dale unas puntaditas a las 2 piezas juntas por delante. y Voilá! Tu cuello terminado!
