DIY: Cloud & Star Baby Cushions ☁ ✭

As some of you may know, Emilio and I are expecting our first baby girl, whose name will be Olivia. As I am passionated about handicrafts, especially sewing, I have started making many DIYs for her, most of them inspired by the easy and cute ideas I usually find on Pinterest.

Today I will show you how to make your own (and so trendy) cloud and star cushions for the cot.

TUTORIAL

What you need / Qué necesitas:

- 0.5 m baby pink felt (or the colour you prefer) / 0,5 m de fieltro rosa bebé (o del color que te guste)

- 0.5 m white felt / 0,5 m de fieltro blanco

- 0.5 m cushion stuffing / 0,5 m de relleno para cojines

- Pattern paper / papel de patronaje

- Ruler, Pencil, rubber / Regla, Lápiz, Goma

- Paper Scissors / Tijeras para papel

- Fabric Scissors / Tijeras para tela

- Sewing Machine / Máquina de coser

- Sewing Kit, matching thread / set de costura, hilo al tono de las telas

1. Firstly you will need to draw the cloud and star template on pattern paper, add 1.5 cm seam allowance and cut them out. I just drew the cloud free hand and the star with the help of a ruler.

Then, I slightly rounded it to make it cuter for babies. It will be easier if you fold the paper in half and draw only half a star. Then cut it out and open up the paper to get the whole star.

1. En primer lugar tienes que dibujar el patrón de la nube y la estrella en papel de patronaje, añadir 1,5 cm de costura y recortarlos. Yo dibujé la nube a mano alzada y la estrella con la ayuda de una regla. Después se redondea para que quede más mona para bebés. Es más fácil si doblas el papel por la mitad y dibujas sólo media estrella. Después recortas el papel doblado y al abrirlo obtendrás la estrella completa.

2. Place the paper templates on top of the folded pieces of felt, and pin the paper to the fabric.

2. Coloca los patrones de papel encima de las piezas de fieltro dobladas por la mitad y sujétalos con alfileres.

3. Cut the fabrics out following the templates and you will get 2 pieces of each. Repeat these 2 steps with the other felt colour.

3. Recorta las piezas de fieltro siguiendo los patrones y obtendrás 2 piezas de cada. Repite estos dos pasos con el fieltro del otro color.

4. Place the two sides together. Match up the curves and corners and pin round the outside edge, leaving a 15cm gap at the bottom. Stitch the 2 pieces together leaving 1.5 seam allowance (I finally did only 1 cm seam allowance as I felt it was enough).

4. Coloca las dos piezas juntas haciendo coincidir las curvas y esquinas y sujétalas con alfileres, dejando un hueco de 15 cm por debajo. Cose las dos piezas juntas a 1,5 cm del borde (finalmente yo dejé sólo 1 cm de costura porque me pareció suficiente).

5. Cut the cushion stuffing in little pieces.

5. Recorta el relleno en pequeños trozos si lo compraste de una pieza y no a trocitos.

6. Fill in the cushion cover through the gap with the pieces of stuffing. Spread them evenly throughout the cushion.. Be especially careful with the corners of the star, so they don't look empty.

6. Rellena el cojín por el hueco con los trocitos de relleno. Reparte todo el relleno homogéneamente, ten especial cuidado con las puntas de la estrella para que no se vean vacías.
